With such rich and diverse natural heritage, it should come as no surprise that South Africans are passionate about conservation. Reserves and protected areas across the country are determined to ensure that we preserve the environment and animals for generations to come. Which is why this month’s travel section celebrates our game reserves and national parks.
First off, we take time out at the coast to find out more about marine protected areas and what they’re doing to conserve our oceans and beaches. We travel to the Garden Route for a leafy embrace in the Knysna Forest before heading to the Highveld to explore the game farm that’s pioneering conservation and rehabilitation in the Magaliesberg. We meet up with the volunteer teams that keep our mountains clean and, finally, set off on a caravan adventure that takes us right across South Africa. So sit back, relax and get exploring.
