FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aberdare supports women business leaders
Aberdare Cables has announced its involvement in the 2018 Standard Bank Top Women Awards. The 30% black woman-owned cable manufacturer looks to accelerate women’s empowerment through its sponsorship of the Top Women Awards’ retail category.
The awards, themed ‘Africa: fast tracking gender advancement in the quest to add $12-trillion to global growth by 2025’, shine a spotlight on women leaders and the top gender empowered companies in South Africa.
“We are excited to have such a dynamic industry leader focused on sustainable socio-economic development on board,” says Karla Fletcher, Director of Events and Marketing for Top Women.
“Aberdare’s education initiatives and its commitment to empowering women in a male-dominated sector perfectly align with our vision of creating gender parity in business in South Africa.”
The retail category looks at hardline, broadline and soft goods retailers, as well as shopping centres, warehouse and wholesale concerns, and distributors.
Qualifying companies have at least 50% female ownership and exhibit high levels of female representation on boards and in other senior management positions. Female-centric policies and expenditure on skills development for women are also considered.
This year’s retail finalists (Bata South Africa, Ancora, GP Retail Operations, Hirsch’s, Kellogg’s South Africa and KIA Motors) have all shown outstanding commitment to furthering gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace and society at large.
Aberdare is proud to be associated with the Standard Bank Top Women Awards and businesses that are leading the way towards gender empowerment in South Africa.
